Apple, Nintendo and game maker Niantic meanwhile announced the wildly popular Pokemon Go would be available for Apple Watch users later this month.
The virtual reality game has been downloaded some 500 million times, Niantic chief John Hinke told the Apple event.
The news came as Apple unveiled its second-generation Apple Watch, the leader in the smart watch market despite slumping sales since its initial release last year.
