POKEMON CRAZE HITS SOUTH AFRICA AS CAPE TOWN'S SEA POINT PROMENADE HOSTS POKEMON GATHERING

The mobile game “Pokemon Go” has taken Cape Town by storm. Hundreds of enthusiasts gathered on the Sea Point promenade on Sunday to play the augmented reality game.

Although not yet officially launched in South Africa, the game has enthusiasts both young and old spending hours on their phones daily.

A Facebook group with thousands of members hosted their second event in the City to allow “Pokemon” fans to catch the elusive characters.

Co-organiser, Garrett Eriksen, says, “The intention is just to get the “Pokemon Go” community together. “Pokemon Go” is the new app that has been going around the world. It is a geo social adventure app where, essentially, you use a Google map overlay to find “Pokemon” in your area. Pokémon are these little creatures you hunt using your phone. We are all big fans and we are all very big supporters of the community. The group was started about three weeks ago and we only had approximately 700 people at one point but it ballooned overnight.
